Double-width row houses are rare in the Back Bay. Underground parking is even more rare. The basement of this 48 foot wide property was excavated to one level below the rear alley and to just above the water table. This project involved the repair of rotted piles, partial pile cap reconstruction, underpinning of common masonry walls, and clearspanning the building width with new basement framing to create open driving lanes. We also reinforced, repaired, replaced, and reorganized load paths of existing framing throughout the building to accommodate new architectural layouts.
